The Certificate Course in Virtual Counselling offers an intensive, evidence-informed 12-hour training program designed to equip mental health practitioners and students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical confidence needed to deliver effective tele-mental health services. The course covers the transition from offline to online therapy, mastering digital therapeutic presence, navigating online disinhibition dynamics, conducting remote mental status assessments, executing emergency crisis protocols, and managing a sustainable digital practice.

This course equips learners with the essential skills required for effective and ethical digital counselling practice. It covers establishing a professional digital presence, maintaining therapeutic boundaries, understanding non-verbal cues, and managing online communication. Learners will explore ethics, cybersecurity, cross-jurisdictional guidelines, data protection, remote Mental Status Examinations (MSE), and the ethical use of online psychometric screening tools. The course also focuses on remote crisis and suicide-risk assessment, emergency protocols, safety planning, and adapting therapeutic interventions across video, telephone, and text-based counselling. In addition, participants will learn practical strategies for digital practice management, building a tele-health presence, maintaining work-from-home boundaries, and preventing screen and listener fatigue.

The course is structured around four key areas: Foundations of Digital Practice, Ethics & Cybersecurity; Online Assessment, Diagnostic Skills & Risk Management; General Principles of Online Therapy & Digital Interventions; and Specialized Applications, Practice Management & Live Capstone.
